Queen West Project

Theatre Passe Muraille – Outside the Box
September, 2012

Script and concept by Deborah Pearson
with consultation from members of Eva’s Phoenix

Choreography by Allison Cummings

Featuring: Bill Coleman, Viv Moore, Jolyanne Langlois, Lucy Rupert, Kevin Ormsby and Andrew Hartley

The Queen West Project takes multiple dancers and pairs them with audience members to travel down Queen West. Part audio tour, part immersive dance experience, the audience members are wearing headphones through which they hear a soundscape that incorporates text, music, and instructions so that a dance begins to take shape – one that only the audience can hear. Devised in collaboration with youth from Eva’s Phoenix, the Queen West Project explores the area’s relationship to homelessness, mental health and regeneration.

This was not a Sore for Punching You production, but a piece commissioned to Deborah Pearson for Theatre Passe Muraille. Allison Cummings was selected by Deborah as choreographer on the project, the piece evolved in a very collaborative way, and is therefore represented on this site.

It was also a really good time.
